Don was born in 1919 on the family homestead, settled in 1883 near Saskatoon. Following his service in the 16/22nd Division of the Saskatchewan Horse in WW2, he returned to the family farm, where he ran a mixed farm and raised purebred Polled Hereford cattle. Don served on the Blackley Rural Telephone Company; he was active in politics and was a member of the 362 Nutana Legion.
Don will be missed by his family Christine (Robert) Banman and family, Barbara (Dale) Gibson and family, John (Marlene) and family, Philip (Phil) (Tania) and family. As well as his daughter April (Ross) McGillivary and family, and family friend Ray Fidler.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Sherbrooke Veterans Village for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Don.
A Celebration of Remembrance will be held Friday July 31 @ 2:00pm at Acadia—McKague’s Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Drive in Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB or the Veterans Village at the Sherbrooke Community Centre.
