Frederick, Donna Ellen (nee Mazurek). Donna passed away on April 16, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of almost 21 years John, her mother Eileen, her sisters Denise and Diane, her brother Alan and her nieces Stacy, Julia and Kathleen.
Donna was born in Saskatoon on December 29, 1967. After graduating from Holy Cross High School, she attended the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. She did all this while also working at the Saskatoon Public Library. She then attended San Jose State College where she obtained her Masters of Library & Information Science. Then she moved on to be the Metadata Librarian at the University of Saskatchewan. She also worked for the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan, the Moose Jaw Water Plant and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. Unfortunately, her health became an issue during the Pandemic and she was unable to continue her career. She loved researching and writing and became a published author, publishing a book, and also writing an ongoing column for a library journal. She also set up a successful Etsy business where she sold her knitting. Her sales went to every corner of Canada.
Donna & John travelled extensively, camping all over North America, and also taking longer journeys to China, Panama and Peru. Donna also visited Europe & Mexico with her sister Denise.
Donna loved being outside in nature, whether that be hiking in a national park or gardening in the backyard. She also loved her pet rabbits.
Donna was very caring and was concerned with what was going on in the world. One of her dreams was to win the lottery and set up a charity to teach low-income people about nutrition and how to replace processed food with healthy alternatives.
At Donna’s request there will be no funeral.
Please donate to organizations such as the Food Bank or St Paul’s Palliative Care or to Cancer Research in lieu of other memorials.
