Doug was born in Prince Albert Saskatchewan in 1945 to Stanley and Lucille Daniels; the eldest of five children.
Doug served in the military for 10 years. His military roots were formed in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, then his service continued with the Canadian Airborne Regiment. After his career with the military, Doug became a Correctional Officer with the Correctional Service of Canada. He retired in 2007 after 35 years of service.
He married Jan Hendricks in 1997, and became not only a husband, but also a father to Jan’s daughter Jenna. Doug was a major father figure in Jenna’s life, and they loved each other dearly. Doug spent his remaining years travelling with his wife and family, engaging in hobbies such as fishing and sporting events, and spending time with family, friends, and his beloved dog, Teddie.
Doug was known to all as a kind hearted, easy going guy, who enjoyed a good laugh, and who could always be counted on for a helping hand. Doug was loved dearly by his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Doug is survived by his wife Jan, his daughter Jenna (Dave), his grand-daughter Sloane (Jenna & Dave), his brother Bob (Brenda), his sister Marilyn (Ashley), and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Doug was pre-deceased by his mother Lucille, his father Stan, his sister Margie, and his brother Wilf.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doug’s life. Donations in Doug’s memory can be made to The Canadian Liver Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association of Saskatchewan.
