With sadness, we announce Douglas Meachem passed away peacefully on December 12, 2021 at the age of 83 after living several years with Alzheimer's disease. Doug was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1938 to Clarence and Mabel Meachem. He attended rural one- room schools, until bus service arrived, allowing him to graduate from Carrot River High School. Doug began his career working for the Royal Bank in various Saskatchewan branches. He then worked as an accountant, audit manager, operational manager and retail general manager with Federated Co-operatives for over twenty-two years. Prior to his retirement, Doug prepared business plans for hundreds of small business and farm operation projects, using spreadsheet programs he designed while working as a business consultant with the Federal Business Development Bank.
In his free time Doug enjoyed carpentry, plumbing and electrical work, building a cabin and helping family and friends with renovations and handyman jobs. His work on the Meachem family tree culminated in a trip to England to further his genealogical research. Doug loved the outdoors being an avid fisherman, and always enjoyed helping out on the farm. In his final years, he enjoyed numerous picnics at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm and car rides in the countryside.
