April 1, 1923 - January 20, 2016
Our loving husband and father, Douglas Garfield Power was peacefully welcomed into the arms of our Lord on January 20, 2016.
Born April 1, 1923 in Halifax, NS to parents Olive and Charles Power, Doug was one of nine children and is survived by his sister Doris (Power) Day. He proudly served our country overseas in WWII as part of the Number Eight Canadian General Hospital. He served in France, Belgium and Holland and while serving in England, Doug met the love of his life, Sylvia (Schuster) Power, also a veteran, and they were married on August 22, 1946. Shortly after the wedding, Sylvia was among many war brides who made the long journey by ship crossing the Atlantic. She reunited with Douglas at Pier 21 in Halifax and together they began their new lives in Lakeside, NS. They raised seven children: Terry, Gary (Patricia), John (deceased) (Claudette), Patrick (Gina), Michael (Norma Anne), Anna (former husband and family friend, Allan) and Kevin. Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren have blessed Doug and Sylvia’s lives over the years.
We remember Doug for his devotion to his family, faith, generosity of spirit, humor and music.
Be at peace dear husband, father, grandfather and friend. We are forever changed by having you in our lives, and forever carry you with us in our hearts.
