Earl passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the age of 92 at the Veteran’s Village in Sherbrooke Community Centre. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Phyllis; children Harry (Jackie), Brenda, Tom (Lisa); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nephews. Earl was born and raised in Saskatoon. At the onset of WWII he tried to enlist in the army at home but was turned away because he was only 16 years old. Not giving up, he “rode the rails” to Ontario and was able to enlist with The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry and was sent overseas. He was wounded in Caen, France during the Normandy Invasion sustaining serious injuries. Earl and Phyllis raised their family in the Mount Royal area. He was actively involved in the Howard Coad Athletic Association, coaching ball and hockey. Earl was a pipefitter by trade and worked for Saskatoon Chemicals for many years until retiring. After retirement, he kept busy doing plumbing work for family and friends. Earl’s grandchildren spent many hours with Grandpa at Kinsmen Park, the Forestry Farm, various playgrounds, and McDonalds. Many summers were spent at the family cabin at Turtle Lake. During the last 5 years Earl faced health challenges. He lived his last year in the Veteran’s Village at Sherbrooke. The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Sherbrooke and to family doctor, Dr. K. Roelens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sherbrooke Foundation (401 Acadia Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7H 2E7). A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church (323 4th Ave S.) in Saskatoon. Arrangements in care of Chelsea Krentz – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
