Also left to honour and remember Esther’s life, legacy, and love of family are three generations of nieces and nephews.
Esther’s education began in Chile, continued through travel to Spain, France, and Canada--where she completed degrees at Université Laval in Quebec City and Université de Saint-Boniface in Winnipeg. Immediately following, Esther began her career in education as a French language primary school teacher within Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. While most of her years of service were at St. Matthew School, her final teaching years were dedicated to instruction of English as an Additional Language (EAL) at E.D. Feehan Catholic High School. Esther’s language abilities in German, Spanish, French, and English gave her exceptional versatility and insight as an educator. A dedicated teacher, she was instrumental in the development of a Spanish language curriculum for instruction within secondary schools in the division. Additionally, as an active member of St. Joseph Parish, for many years she led and taught within the children’s word liturgy and sacramental preparation programs.
Through her teaching, parish involvement, and both French and Spanish language connections, Esther made many strong and lasting friendships. Her family and friends particularly thank her faithful and caring francophone colleagues, as well as the entire Dessouki family, especially Adela for her devoted sisterhood and James for his responsibility in a range of issues. We thank St. Ann’s Home for the comprehensive and compassionate care that Esther received from all staff, and give special thanks to Michelle O’Hearn, Director of Care, and Edgar Neudorf, Spiritual Care Director.
To honour Esther’s commitment toward the advancement of research on Parkinson’s disease, as well as her gratitude for the care received as her illness progressed, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to either St. Ann's Senior Citizens Village Corporation: www.stannsvillage.ca/ways-to-give/ or Parkinson Canada: donate.parkinson.ca
