Evelyn Ilene Knoll (Puttick) passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, with the same grace, dignity and faith that she lived her life. She was born August 15, 1930 in Port Colborne, Ontario, to her loving parents, Fred and Lelia Puttick.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Marion Gale; her brother, Lovet Puttick; her husband, Irving Knoll; her daughter, Nora Lee Cochrane, and many friends and family members. She is survived by her son, David Knoll (Cathy); her son in-law, Dale Cochrane; grandchildren Kelly Cochrane (Lonee), Kevin Cochrane, Craig Cochrane (Kathy), Matthew Knoll (Megan) and Melissa Sedgewick (Dan); her great grandchildren Bodhi, Zara, Liam, Koby, Errol, and Natalie Cochrane and Weston and Elle Sedgewick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn received her education at Steel Street School and Port Colborne High School. She began taking piano lessons at the age of 8 and quickly excelled at it. She played in many music festivals across Ontario and won many medals and scholarships throughout her childhood and adult life. Evelyn was a devoted Christian and was always active in her church. She learned to play the pipe organ in the local church (St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Port Colborne, Ontario) during her teenage years and began teaching and playing music for the children at Sunday school. As the years passed, she became the church organist and choir director. This was a job she took very seriously. She was a true perfectionist, and it showed in her music.
Evelyn met and married the love of her life, Irving Knoll, in August, 1952. They were married for 60 years until his passing in 2012. In Irving, she fund a loving and devoted husband and father, and together they were blessed with a daughter, Nora Lee, in 1954, and a son, David, in 1959. The family lived in Port Colborne, Ontario until they moved to Saskatoon in 1973. Evelyn and her family quickly found a church home at Augustana Lutheran Church, where Evelyn resumed her active life as the church organist and choir director. She also taught piano lessons and played music for a local funeral home. As evelyn aged and retired from her jobs, she remained active as much as her health would allow and volunteered by playing music for special services at churches, wedding, and care homes. She always said that music was God’s plan for her, and she would continue it as long as she could because it brought her so much joy. Evelyn loved people and had many friendships she cherished over the years. She continued to make friends right up until her passing.
Due to health issues, Evelyn moved to Luther Special Care Home in 2022, where she resided until her passing. We would like to thank the staff and volunteers there for the excellent care of mom during the time she lived there.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Luther Special Care Home (recreational fund), 1212 Osler St., Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7N 0T9. (306) 664-0300. In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, a private service will be held, where she will be laid to rest with her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery.
