It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Finton Marche on March 14, 2024, at the age of 84, who died at home with family by his side after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer.
Finton was a wonderful husband, who married the love of his life and in his words, she “was his whole world.” He was the best father and grandfather who provided a lifetime full of wonderful memories and great times, attending significant events in their lives and was always there for them. He was a kind-hearted person who loved to sit and chat with anyone, even complete strangers.
He loved life, travel (especially trips home to Newfoundland), music, and for many years, reading, darts, a good game of cards, drawing, painting, and most recently, when drawing and painting were too difficult, loved doing puzzles. From the time he was a young man, he had a passion for carpentry, and up until the past few years, built numerous homes, cabinets, bars, and spent countless hours on renovations for family and friends.
For a period of time, Finton owned his own carpentry business before taking his last job as a housing inspector with Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. He loved spending time with friends, but he treasured the time with his family most of all.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Ann; parents-in-law Fred and Veronica; sister Joyce; brothers Jack and Bart; sister-in-law Sylvia; and brothers-in-law Kev and Gerard.
Finton leaves to mourn, with precious memories, his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Ezekiel); daughters Tammy (John), Dee (Frank), and Sherry; son Phillip; grandchildren Robbie (Mel), Megan, and Britt; brother Nish (Darlene); sister Jean (Franz); sisters-in-law Ursula, Lorraine, Dianna, Pauline, and Theresa; brothers-in-law Pete, Paul, and Rick; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
Following his wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life is being planned. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or a charity of one’s choice.
A special thank you to the staff from the Saskatoon Health Region, the Palliative Care Unit, and the home care staff, especially Trudy, as well as Dr. Secord for the wonderful care that they provided throughout his illness and in his final days. We will always be grateful for your professionalism and compassion. The family would like to sincerely thank the Alzheimer’s Society for their many years of support and for their steadfast commitment to those suffering from dementia. A special thanks as well to all those who made visits, phone calls, sent messages, food, and flowers.
Rest well. We will miss you always.
