Frank passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the age of 81 years surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by Agnes, his loving wife of nearly 60 years; his children Maureen (Rob Tortolo), Steve (Carol), Trudy (Bill Lucy), Janice MacDougall (Barry), Jim (Janne Holmgren), Bob (Brenda), Don (Karen), Kevin (Lisa), Karen (Jim Gloo), Michelle (Mark Wilson), Barry (Christy-Ann) and Lyle (Sonja Broadbent); twenty-three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Walter (Elsie); sisters Dorothy (Marcel) Lukan and Josephine (Mike) Dietrich; in-laws Leonard (Margaret) Lukan, Jack Collins and Ervine (Margaret) Lukan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Ronnie; his parents; and several siblings.
Frank was a man who loved the land, but also embraced the city. He was one of those rare people who truly could do anything. He was a farmer, artist, musician, gardener, carpenter, singer, craftsman, cake decorator, mechanic, and piano tuner, and possessed many other skills and talents. His creativity and problem solving ability knew no bounds. But above all, he was a patient and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Frank’s family was a tremendous source of pride: all twelve children went on to post-secondary education. His keen intelligence, constant curiosity, perennial optimism, generosity of spirit and great sense of humour were a source of inspiration and will always be remembered.
Frank was born on the family farm near Luseland, SK on Oct. 22, 1934. He married Agnes Lukan, the love of his life, on July 26, 1956. After farming for 36 years at Salvador, SK, Frank and Agnes moved to Saskatoon in 1992. He established Frank's Piano Service, beginning his second career as a piano tuner and restorer. Both a hobby and a profession to him, he was still tuning pianos until a month before his death.
Frank was very active in the community, giving his time and talent to a number of organizations. While on the farm, he volunteered as a hockey coach, 4-H leader and school board chairman. After moving to Saskatoon, he was involved with the Saskatoon Horticultural Society, Chimo Chordsmen and St. Anne's Choir. He was also very involved in his church parish councils and the Knights of Columbus throughout his life.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31st. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1st. Both services will be held at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church (217 Lenore Dr). The Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Hospital - Palliative Care Unit (1702 – 20th St West, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9). The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all of the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital and Frank’s doctors for all their care and dedication.
