Growing up in Saskatoon, Gary developed a love of card and strategy board games that occupied many a prairie evening. Besting his younger brother or his own friends, a common occurrence, never grew tiring for him. Later in life this blossomed into a love of several MMORPG computer games, often playing them while also having a live sporting event playing on a TV beside him at the same time.
Gary’s career included managing restaurants, managing his own business, earning the CPA, and working with the CRA for many years in progressively more responsible leadership assignments. He was always known for deeply caring about his staff, his customers, and his team members. He proudly coached and supported hundreds of people over the decades of his various management roles.
His love of music was wide-ranging, and his commitment to travel around North America to see his favorite bands, often multiple times over multiple decades, was well known (and he proudly wore the T-shirts to prove it – saying that he could wear a different concert T-shirt every day for at least a month).
Sports was another love, from playing in a variety of recreational leagues when he was younger to travelling to all of the original great baseball stadiums and the Original 6 NHL rinks to attend professional games, and he loved to talk about sports (and sports cards) with anyone at anytime.
Gary will be interred at the Columbarium at the St. John’s Cathedral in Saskatoon during a private family ceremony. He asked that there be no funeral services, but the family will conduct a Celebration of Life in Saskatoon in early May of this year – details to be announced at a later time. As befits the wishes of a raconteur, there will be no slide shows – simply a sharing of stories from all those attending.
Gary was predeceased by his mother, Jean (Calling) Farnsworth, and survived by his father C. Doug Farnsworth, his brother Lloyd Farnsworth, and his sister-in-law Wendy Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, Gary asked that you make donations to either Diabetes Canada or the Saskatoon Food Bank.
Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
