Jill was born on January 29, 1938, in Manchester, United Kingdom, to George and Sally Davies. In 1959, she married her lifelong partner, Jack (John) Postlethwaite, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to their family. Their marriage was a true partnership, and the lessons they passed on—kindness, fairness, and the importance of community—will continue to guide all who loved them.
Jill’s heart was always with people. As a Saskatoon City Councilor and a passionate advocate for persons with disabilities, she poured herself into making the city better, fairer, and more accessible. She believed deeply that everyone deserved to be seen, heard, and included. She didn’t just talk about change—she worked for it every single day.
She was also a quiet trailblazer. As a pioneer of the Saskatoon Soccer Association, Jill helped bring girls’ soccer to the city at a time when it was far from common. Her determination meant that countless young women had a place to play, grow, and be confident—an impact that continues to ripple through the community.
At home, Jill was never happier than when she was in or near water. A strong swimmer all her life, she swam daily in her beloved backyard pool each summer. That pool became a gathering place for everyone she loved. Some of our best memories live there: pool parties on warm evenings, family swims that stretched long past sunset, and the joy on her grandchildren’s faces as she taught them to float, kick, and swim with confidence. She cared for that pool with the same tenderness she offered the people in her life.
Jill is survived by her children John (Jessica), Aaron (Leah), and Sally, and by her five grandchildren who brought her endless joy. She leaves behind many friends and extended family members who were touched by her warmth, wisdom, and steady presence. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jack and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saskatoon Search and Rescue or the Saskatoon Food Bank—causes that reflect her belief in community and helping those in need.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the TM Neighborhood at Luther Special Care Home for their kindness during her final days.
