August 2, 1931 – January 5, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of James Don Baugh announces his passing. With family by his side beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather slipped peacefully away from life on January 5, 2022, at 90 years of age. Dad was born the youngest of four to Folliott and Margret Baugh on August 2, 1931. Peggy, Scott, Jean and Dad grew up in Spiritwood and Fort Qu’Appelle. As a young boy he loved all sports but favored hockey, football, boxing and swimming. At the age of 11 his family moved from Spiritwood to Fort Qu’Appelle where his love for swimming led him to become a lifeguard at Echo Lake. It was also at this time that he would hone his skills as a duck and goose hunter, a hobby which would carry on into his later years. Most importantly, it was at this time in the Fort that he met and married the love of his life, Peggy Flett. They married on January 29, 1949. In 1949, as his father did before him, Dad joined the CNR and worked for the railroad unit his retirement in 1988. This career would take him and his family to numerous communities in Saskatchewan; most notable being Dummer, Bradwell, Humboldt, Melfort, Saskatoon and Kamloops. He retired in Kamloops, from the CNR, as chief dispatcher. In 1999, Dad and Mom moved back to Saskatoon to be closer to their children. Dad could often be found at the Western Development Museum sending Morse Code on his telegraph key. Dad always encouraged his kids to study hard and get involved in sports/extracurricular activities. He emphasized the importance of furthering one’s education. Mom and Dad raised seven children with hugs and love coupled with a kick in the pant when needed. The legacy of Dad’s spirit, passion, hard work and love of reading will live on through all of us. He leaves to mourn his wife Peggy, of 73 years, children: Carol (Harry Swartout), Debbie (Duane McAvoy), Shelley Wilson, Dawn (Brian Reilkoff), Cathy (Daryl Boehme), Jane (Wayne Horkoff) and Scott Baugh, along with 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Beidh tu’caillte ach ni dearmad. (You will be missed but not forgotten.) Arrangements are in care of David Polzen – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
