1931-2015
It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Dunbar announce his passing, with his three children by his side, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Doreen (nee Doyle); his twin sister, Jean; his parents, Clarice and Adam; his youngest brother, Gordon; and three sisters Shirley, Ruth and Pearl. He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Craig) Russell and their children, Megan and Darren; his son, Scott (Susan) Dunbar and their son Dallas; his daughter, Angie Dyck and her sons Jeffrey, Jamie and Joe; as well as his only great-grandchild, Levi.
Jim was born in Biggar, SK. He left home at a young age to fight in the Korean War, where he saw combat. He worked for Precision Drilling for many years, travelling all over Saskatchewan, Alberta, Quebec and the Yukon. During one of his moves, he met Doreen (nee Doyle), his wife of 53 years. In 1964, he started to work for Tyson Mining and moved to Saskatoon, where he and Doreen resided with their children for 28 years. When Jim retired from Central Canada Potash in 1992, he and Doreen fulfilled their dream by moving up north to live at Little Bear Lake, where they made so many wonderful friends.
Jim was a very avid outdoorsman who thought the north was heaven on earth. Nothing made him happier than a day on the lake, a day on the quad or snowmobile trails, or a wiener roast with good friends. One of the legacies he left behind was the hours of work on the trail system and warm-up shelters for others to enjoy. Everyone knew if they needed something done, they could call on Jim.
The family would like to express their thanks to all the wonderful friends from Little Bear Lake who gave rides to appointments, provided meals, coffee, baking, support and laughter. It was very much appreciated by Jim and his family.
As per his request, there will be no service and a Private Family Interment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Lisa Ruf - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200)
