December 19, 1937 – September 4, 2016
The road rose up to meet Mom on the evening of Sept 4th. Joan died peacefully after spending time with family and friends and is united again with her dear husband Joe. Health care pioneer, community visionary and antique bicycle aficionado, Joan was first and foremost a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her five well-intentioned children: Kerry, James, Peter, Megan, and Dan and eight grandchildren. Joan was a registered nurse involved in the establishment of the first Palliative Care Unit in Saskatoon and died in the expert care of her colleagues at St. Paul’s Hospital. Joan was an advocate for better access to palliative care for the people of Saskatoon and supported the work of the Prairie Hospice Society. Joan’s family will be making a donation in her name to the Prairie Hospice Society and encourages other families to do so as well. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church (1902 Munroe Ave. S.) in Saskatoon. The Celebrants will be Rev. Father Emile April and Rev. Father Mike Dechant, OMI. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date. Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services 306-978-5200
