With saddened hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Joseph “Joe” Sklar, at 76 years of age. He passed away on November 1, 2020 in Saskatoon. Joe is lovingly remembered by his family: wife, Shirley, and children Jo-Anne (Dwayne) Wiebe (Justin, Dillon), Laura (Ken) Kachuck (Zachary, Brittany), Terri Sklar (Marcus, Jessica, Logan), Peter Sklar (Evan, Jacob) and two great-granddaughters (Aaliyah and Jameelah). Joe was born in Prince Albert, SK to Peter and Pauline Sklar on July 22, 1944. He attended school in Kalyna, Meath Park and Delisle. In his early years, Joe worked for SaskPower, Precision Drilling, and Cementation. In 1969, he started work with Cominco Potash Mine (Agrium) until his retirement in 2003. Joe was a long-time member of the YMCA where he stayed active and made many friends. Being an avid sports fan, he could be found in any bleachers watching a variety of sports. His summers were spent at the family cabin at Candle Lake fishing, water skiing, tubing, mini golfing, taking others out for ice cream and creating ever-lasting memories for all. Cards were always being shuffled welcoming anyone who would play with him to the table for a game. He loved family, a good laugh, a game of Kaiser, the colour green, a good shot of whiskey and the Montreal Canadians! A special thank you to the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for his care. A Private Family Liturgy of the Word will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020. The service will be recorded and uploaded to: www.faithproductions.ca/livestream in the days to come. Memorial donations can be made in Joe’s name to the Saskatoon Children’s Wish Foundation. Arrangements in care of Aimé Laventure – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
