September 30, 1947 – January 27, 2021
Judy, to us, was one of a kind with a unique and loving spirit; intuitive, curious, talkative, and spiritual. She had a sharp memory on which we relied for family remembrances, a keen sense of humour, and she loved to laugh, tickled by a clever comment, even at her own expense. Judy was born in Saskatoon, SK the first of four Ormiston daughters, to Evelyn Pretlow and Pat Ormiston, in 1947. Her mother was a new bride from New York, NY, settling in Saskatoon far from home when Judy was born. Three little girls followed and the four sisters formed a strong bond navigating the shoals of our lives, to this day. Judy attended Luther College in Regina, then married Jim Haight and moved to the family farm near Hanley to raise James (Jimmy) followed by Lisa, who grew up in the Hanley area and went to high school at Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook. Although life could be challenging on the farm, Judy loved the garden and found peace there. Moving into Outlook, she enjoyed community, church, and lifelong friends. She returned to Saskatoon for the last 20 years to be closer to family, losing her husband Jim in 2009. Judy loved flowers, most anything pink, music and musicals, and traveling. She thrived on it, and reminisced often. Alaska with her sisters, New York to visit cousins, family visits in Toronto, Ottawa, Alberta and B.C., even a trip to the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville. In her 60th year she toured England where she was heard to say “I had to step out of my comfort zone, and I liked it!”. Judy was a proud grandmother to Ben and Logan Haight, mother in law to Jodi and was blessed to enjoy Lisa and Dave Bragg’s wedding in 2018. She loved her children, her sisters: Jean, Elizabeth, Susan; her parents Pat and Evie, many nephews and nieces, including William, Aidan, and her New York cousins. Brothers in law Keith, Brian kept her laughing, and up to date on technology and she so enjoyed barbecues, potlucks with the extended Haight families, including Lyle, Jill, Janet, Jeff, Lana. Connections were her lifeline and the last pandemic year was an extra burden. Like many, Judy had her share of challenges; which she met with determination and grit. She took on new experiences, followed the news, and cared deeply about the welfare of others and the Church. She prayed for all of us, often. Her abiding faith was a steady hand and she was brave. Judy’s path through life was smoothed by many angels; enduring and loyal friends, the kindness of strangers and many health care workers who took a special interest in her, including during her last few months at Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon. The Haight, Ormiston families are very grateful. She passed on peacefully, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 after a short, but critical illness, wrapped in the love of her family close by. Judy left an indelible imprint on our lives. We will miss her spirit! A Private Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021.
