Karla Michelle Crilly passed away on August 16, 2023. She was born on October 6, 1968, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Karla grew up in Saskatoon in the Eastview neighborhood and attended Saint Thomas Elementary School. She then went on to high school at Holy Cross, eventually achieving a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 1990.
Karla's love for books and helping people led her to a career with the Saskatoon Public Library. Starting out part-time paging and working on the bookmobiles, she rose through the ranks at various library branches, eventually landing her dream position as a supervisor at the Alice Turner Branch in the Silverspring neighborhood. She loved her job, especially the interactions with the many patrons she served and colleagues she worked with over her 35 years of library service. One of Karla's favorite tasks over the years was performing story times for preschool-aged children. Often as she was out and about in the community, people would instantly recognize her as the friendly library lady and thanked her for providing their young children with a great library experience.
Outside of her career, Karla had a love of gardening, traveling, long neighborhood walks, but most of all, being at home with her son Ryan, husband Darren, and dog Kira. She had a knack for taking care of everyone and everything, constantly planning, scheduling, and budgeting all the family and household affairs, making sure that everyone was doing what they needed to do and were where they needed to be. She was her son's number one supporter, never missing an opportunity to cheer him on at various sporting and life events, and always there to provide advice and pick him up when he was feeling down. She would also extend that type of support to Ryan's teammates and their families, often there to organize a team event or simply bring out ice cream snacks for the kids after practice. Her caring personality and infectious smile will never be forgotten.
The memories of Karla will be cherished by all those she leaves behind, including her husband of 27 years, Darren Crilly, her son Ryan Crilly, her father Denis Senecal, mother Patricia Senecal, sister Lana Senecal, and brother Evan Senecal. Thank you to everyone who continues to provide comfort and condolences to our family. Your thoughts, prayers, and embraces have helped us as we manage through this terrible loss.
