Kathleen "Kay" Swetleshnoff , age 90, of Atton Crescent, Saskatoon, died March 27, 2022 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Kay has been living at the Warm & Cozy Personal Care Home since November 2016 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
She was born at home on a farm in Canora, Saskatchewan on April 4, 1931, the daughter of Fred and Diana (Reibin) Swetleshnoff. She was delivered by her father’s aunt, a midwife for whom she had a special affection.
Kay graduated from Canora Composite High School in 1949, then went on to Business College in Saskatoon. Kay spent 43 years working as an executive secretary at hospitals and government agencies in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Her first job was her absolute favorite… at the McClean Clinic in Saskatoon. Her career took her to Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge, Alberta. She retired from the Alberta Department of Transportation in 1993.
Kay retired to Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan to her newly constructed home to enjoy the “easy” life. She enjoyed cooking, playing “Upwards” with her older sister and brother-in-law, and loved gardening. In her prime time, she enjoyed travelling, skiing, camping, and curling. A cherished memento is a ceramic skunk (a boobie prize for when her team got skunked in curling!) Kay was a quiet person who was very private though she enjoyed family gatherings and being with people… gracing those who knew her with joy and laughter. She also loved music, animals and the outdoors.
Survivors include her sisters, Diana (James) Connolly of Peru, NY, Evelyn (Vic) Lisecki of Lethbridge, Alberta, and a brother, George of Canora, Saskatchewan. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, John Malanowich of Saskatoon, and several nieces, Kathy Malanovich of Saskatoon, Karen Story (David) of Leoville, Saskatchewan, Judy (Lonny) Bogner, of Saskatoon, and Joanna (Scott) Hamm of Lethbridge, Alberta as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, older sister Pauline, two brothers, Harry and Stanley, and nephews, David Malanovich and Jeffrey Lisecki.
The family would like to share their deep appreciation for the loving care of many caregivers at Warm & Cozy. At Kay’s request there will be no public funeral. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Peaceful Pines Cemetery in Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan.
