Kathryn Schmidt (Janke) passed away at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon on February 13, 2022 at the age of 57. Left to cherish her memory are her mother Aileen Janke (Hilderman), sister Karen Janke-Curliss (Doug, and Andrea & Aaron Rohrke, Hugo & Seth), sister Lynn Breker (Jeremy) & niece Kyra Breker, as well as friends from Calgary & CPS who became like a second family to her. She was predeceased by her father Wilfred Janke (2020) and brother Kenneth (2006). Kathryn was born on July 18, 1964, in Winnipeg, MB. At the age of 2, the family moved to Fort Saskatchewan, AB. In 1978, the family moved to Saskatoon where Kathryn attended Evan Hardy Collegiate, the U of S, and the Saskatoon Business College where she received the IBM award of Canada. Kathryn worked with the Saskatoon Police Service, and then the Calgary Police Service for many years, with a break for a couple of years when she lived in Winnipeg, MB and sold Fifth Avenue Jewelry. Kathryn was a big-hearted, loving, and compassionate person who loved to sing, and enjoyed singing with the Calgary Police chorus for a few years. She loved being outdoors: hiking, walking, biking or just relaxing. She enjoyed attending the Calgary Stampede, her trips to Creston, BC to visit friends, yearly trips to Idaho for the “Back to the 50’s” weekend, as well as her girl trips to Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed time with her sisters, whether that included watching old musicals or romcoms, playing board games, hanging out at a beach, taking long walks, or going on memorable shopping excursions. There was always lots of laughter in those change rooms, including from the staff at the stores. Kathryn loved spending time with all family across the provinces and going to Candle Lake to spend time at Karen & Doug’s cabin. When we think of Kathryn, we will remember her decked out in one of her many outfits, with matching shoes and accessorized with Heidi Daus jewelry to match her sparkling personality and smile. When we look up at the twinkling stars in the sky, we remember the twinkle that was in her eyes. She was taken from us much too soon, but we will treasure the time we had together. She will be missed by her family and friends, as she touched so many people’s lives! The family would like to thank Kathryn’s CPS family for their support during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the staff at RUH and Sherbrooke (4th Neighborhood) for caring for Kathryn, and the residents of the 4th Neighborhood for making her welcome during the short time she was there. Memorial donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance (https://stars.ca), Sherbrooke Community Centre (https://sherbrookecommunitycentre.ca) or Royal University Hospital Foundation (https://ruhf.org). Future funeral arrangements are in the care of Ashley Knash - Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200
