September 30, 1922 – April 28, 2014
Kenneth Reid passed away gently at the age of 91 following a diagnosis of bone cancer. He has been loved and cared for by his cherished wife, Joyce during 62 years of marriage. Together they raised a family and shared the joy of their four grandchildren and now, new great-granddaughter, Elle. Recently mom has had the full responsibility for Dad’s care at home and our family honors her unfailing love. We are thankful to the Palliative Nursing Team, Home Care, the Cancer Clinic, Bayshore Home Health staff, and St. Paul’s Hospital, 5th Floor. Ken was born in North Battleford, grew up in the rural farming community of Lilac and went to high school in Ruddell. He attended the U of S, spent two years in the RCAF, then graduated with a BScAg. Although farming was his first career he sought employment with the Fed. Dept. of Agriculture, Livestock Div. He was employed as grade standards officer in SK and Stockyard Administration. He was a member of the Ag Grad Assoc. (class of ’48) and continued membership in FSNA, following retirement in 1983. In his youth, Dad played softball and after retiring was a member of the Wildwood Seniors Division, curled at the Nutana Club, and with mom, attended the Fieldhouse CARG program for many years. Grandpa dearly cherished his role as grandfather. Through the generosity of his time and energy, cheering at soccer games, attending school events, and family functions, he modeled for his grandchildren the essence of family life. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Daryl Reid (Rita); daughters, Terry Clark and Patti (Bob) Holtsman; grandchildren, Morgan Clark (Todd Ferguson), Sarah Clark and Jennifer and Daniel Holtsman; great granddaughter, Elle Wren Ferguson; sister, and brother-in-law, Audrey and Ken Stewart; brother-in-law Paul Viney, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Kenneth was a quiet, gentle man. He didn’t seek to be a leader, but lived by example; family first, work hard, be kind, love and respect God’s world. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prairie Hospice Society (716 Queen St., Saskatoon, SK, S7K 0M9) or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor St East) on May 6, 2014 at 1:30 pm.
