It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry David Prestupa on February 11, 2026, at the age of 71, after an 8 year battle with leukemia. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
Larry was a hard worker, spending most of his life working in construction as a heavy equipment operator. He took great pride in his work, until his diagnosis in 2018 forced him into early retirement. He had a passion for collecting antiques, vintage farm and construction toys, and spending time searching for and buying his many treasures. He made a lot of special friendships through this hobby of his, and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Larry was a diehard, lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan. He never missed a chance to cheer on his Habs or wear the team logo with pride. He had a keen sense of humour and always had a way of making people laugh. He left a lasting impression on those around him.
Larry is survived by his wife Shannon; his daughter Chelsey; son-in-law Brandon; and his granddaughters Hailey and Avery, who were his pride and joy. He found his true calling in life being a grandpa, and to know Larry was to know just how much he cherished his beloved granddaughters. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Throughout his journey, Larry displayed incredible courage, inspiring everyone who stood beside him. He fought a lengthy battle with 3 forms of leukemia, the last rare and aggressive form diagnosed in July of 2025. There were many obstacles along the way, and he faced them all with remarkable strength, courage and resilience. Our family extends our deepest gratitude to his oncology team at Royal University Hospital for their dedication, steadfast support and tireless efforts through the years. Your kindness, care and compassion made a profound difference in our lives. Special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Waleed Sabry, Dr. Assem El Sayed and Renee Stuckel.
Thank you also to the staff at the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital for providing such compassionate and loving care at the end of his journey.
There will be no funeral service, rather a Private Celebration of Life at a later date. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, and in memory of Larry, donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada https://www.bloodcancers.ca .
