He is also leaving behind numerous Aunts, Uncles, and extended family members. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at St. Augustine Catholic Church (602 Boychuk Drive) in Saskatoon. The service will be live streamed on the parish Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
Leo was born in Biggar SK. He was the firstborn of Fred and Joyce Roth. He was the oldest of 6 children, and the only boy. He grew up on the family farm near Handel SK. When he was about 13 months old, he contracted polio and it affected his right leg, but his disability never prevented him from living a full life. He graduated from high school in 1970 and farmed for a few years. In 1973 he took an accounting course through Saskatoon Business College in Saskatoon. Throughout the years he worked in various positions and many clients benefited from his business and tax expertise. His last twenty years of work was with the Credit Union and preparing income tax forms.
Going fishing, doing archery, listening to the ham radio, graphic design and taking pictures were some of Leo’s many hobbies. He was always fixing something that was broken and had a talent with computer technology. Many people would come to him for advice and if he could help, he would. Leo was an advocate for the disabled and volunteered for the Saskatchewan Paraplegic Association for many years. He enjoyed fundraising and participating in wheelchair relays with his family.
Leo was a man of faith, and he took the two-year Lay formation Program offered in the Saskatoon Diocese starting in 1990. He and Debra were part of a team that offered lay led services at St. Mark’s Parish in Langham. He played guitar in numerous choirs throughout the years and loved to play and sing at home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was also a Grand Knight. He took photos at the K of C indoor games for years. Leo did not want a eulogy at his funeral. He said that “those who know me know me and those that don’t it doesn’t matter.” He will be greatly missed but knowing he lived his life to the full and had a strong faith eases our grief and loss.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
