Linda Moskalyk was born on February 25, 1958, to Edward and Connie Ruzesky. Growing up in Radisson, Saskatchewan, Linda was a true farm girl and remained nostalgic of her home town throughout her life. Although her roots were planted deep in the wheat fields and living skies, Linda would go on to live a life full of adventure across continents and communities.
Linda was dedicated to her career in horticulture with the City of Saskatoon being especially passionate about preserving the city’s urban forest. This passion for trees and nature translated into her admired artwork, a talent everyone knew her for.
Not one ever scared of taking risks, Linda decided to take an early retirement after attending an art residency in Costa Rica, relocating there part time after being inspired by the old growth rainforests and environmental preservation efforts. This decision would end up soon leading her to the love of her life, her husband and soulmate, Tom Gode. Together, the two spent over a decade living within and managing Cloudbridge Nature Reserve. Here they supported reforestation and conservation first hand, as well as assisting researchers and scientists from across the world in their projects.
Spending the summers in Saskatoon, Linda continued her dedication to environmental activism as the president of SOS Trees Coalition. She was also an avid cyclist and volunteered with Saskatoon Cycles.
Linda was dedicated to her friendships and had an active social life. She loved travelling, cooking, and creating an urban oasis of a garden in her yard. Linda found herself spending more time in Canada in recent years as one of her favorite past times was spending time with her two grandchildren, Amaya and Aasha. “Nana” as they called her, was always creating fun experiences for her granddaughters. They enjoyed sleepovers, “fancy dinners” and gardening in the greenhouse.
Linda is survived by her husband, Tom, daughters, Erin (Ryan), Kara (Atul), granddaughters Amaya and Aasha, sister Lorrie (Brooke), brother David (Tamie), and nephews and niece Toran, Ben, Andrew, Matthew and Amanda.
Linda’s wishes were to hold a private family gathering under the trees. If you wish to honor Linda, donations can be made to SOS Trees Coalition, a tree advocacy organization she led for many years.
