September 23, 1942 – July 22, 2018
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Lionel DeBray. Lionel passed away peacefully in his sleep after battling COPD and kidney disease. Lionel leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Edith (Gervais), children Sherry and Patrick (Rochelle), grandchildren Alexandrea (Eric) Rodrigues, Victoria DeBray, Liliane and Iviane DeBray Richard; and great-grandchildren Lucy, Millie, and Natalie Rodrigues. Lionel was very proud of his work ethic. After 3 years of service with the Royal Canadian Navy, Lionel returned to Saskatchewan. There he worked in the mines in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, at Intercon, owned and operated the Lucky Dollar Store in Vonda, and settled at what would become Univar until his retirement in 2005 after 29 years. Lionel was an avid sports fan. Whether it was baseball, hockey, or curling you would find him flipping between sports channels so as not to miss out on the action. Lionel will always be remembered for his quick-witted humour and knack for making every friend feel like his best friend. Lionel’s family wish to thank his team of doctors, the medical staff at St. Paul’s and RUH, especially the 6th floor observation and palliative care providers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Rd.) in Saskatoon. Memorial donations may be made to The COPD Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Arrangements in care of Aimé Laventure – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
