

Leni Wedenig of Saskatoon passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on May 18, 2025. She was born in Budaors, Hungary on December 1, 1937, as the second child of the family. In 1946 the family moved to Plankstadt by Heidelberg in Germany, where she continued her education until the age of 15. In 1953 the family immigrated to Saskatoon. She married her loving husband, Karl Wedenig, on December 29, 1956.
She leaves to mourn her children; Monika (Phillip) Hnatiuk and Carl (Tracey) Wedenig, her grandchildren; Melissa (Apollo) Ng, Tiffany (Jason) Fregoe, Pierce Hnatiuk, Travis Hnatiuk, Carl John (C.J.) Wedenig III and Warner Wedenig, her great-grandchildren, Orion Ng, Aries Ng, Robyn Fregoe and Kyle Fregoe, her brother; John (Eileen) Ritter and nephew; Ryan Ritter, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and several cousins in Germany, Hungary and USA. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Karl Wedenig, her parents; John and Magdalena Ritter and her brother; Johann Ritter.
Leni went back to school later in life and graduated from the College of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan in 1980. The Federal Government employed her as a Business Auditor and Special Investigator, where she retired in 1999. Her priority was always her loving family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During Leni’s lifetime, she was involved in the community, such as her Church, Toastmasters, Saskatoon Folkfest, German Cultural Centre, the Credit Union and various other organizations. She loved to dance, read, travel and to spend time with family and friends.
Leni’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the Short-term Cardiac Care Unit for the care and compassion she received.
A celebration of Leni’s life will be held at The Columbarium at St. John’s Cathedral (816 Spadina Crescent East) in Saskatoon, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Ken Beck as celebrant. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt with Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Leni’s wish was that you would go out and do an act of kindness for someone in memory of her.
