Passed away on Nov. 1, 2014 at St. Paul’s Hospital after a short illness. Our “Nana Mo” was born on Oct. 24, 1918 in Leader Sask. to Paul and Elisabeth Meier (Reiger) and they lived in the Prelate Sask. area. Her father died three years after her birth and her mother remarried Amant Brotzel from Broadacres, Sask. where Mom grew up. Mom married Morris Gutenberg in 1937 and they were married for almost 60 years until “Papa Mo” passed away in 1997. Mom and Dad both came from very large families and most of the siblings have passed. She was also predeceased by her son in law Harrison Henschel. Mom is survived by her sisters Mary (Doug) Brososky and Veronica Halter and her brother Lawrence (Helen) Brotzel. Mom also leaves behind daughters Phyllis Henschel and Beverley Gutenberg as well as son Keith (Valerie) Gutenberg; grandchildren Shawn (Gloria) Henschel, Shannon (Brent) Richardt, Brett (Ann) Henschel, Bonnie (Michael) Ralston, Stacy (Trevor) Rogers; great grandchildren Ryan (Deanna), Curtis, Nicole, Brayden, Carter, Ashton, Alexandra (Wade), Mackenzie, Turner, Vanessa, River, Akira, Trinity, Nathaniel and great, great grandchildren, Mason, Bennett and Weston. Mom followed Dad to many towns and cities in Saskatchewan during his career as an elevator manager with the United Grain Growers. She lived in Broadacres, Laird, Prud’homme, Hanley, Francis and Craik. After Dad retired from the elevator they lived in Regina, Hanley again, and finally at Hector Trout Manor in Saskatoon. In all of these places Mom was very active in the community. She was a member of many service clubs such as the Royal Purple, Homemakers and the CWL where she was recently recognized for 60 years of service. She was an avid curler and golfer. She also enjoyed watching baseball, curling, golf and of course the Roughriders. Mom was very compassionate and caring and in her sixties completed a training course to become a Home Care aid. She often remarked that she would have loved to have become an RN like her daughter in law Valerie but this allowed her to fulfill part of that dream. “Nana Mo” loved her large extended family and her friends and will be missed by all. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5th at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (217 Lenore Drive in Saskatoon). Following the reception, the Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in Mom’s name.
