July 1, 1940-December 24, 2018
God wrapped his loving arms around our precious wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend on December 24, 2018 and carried her home. Mary touched the hearts of absolutely everyone she met. Mary grew up on a farm in the Strawberry Valley District of Saskatchewan with her parents Sophia (Wilson) and Elmer Freethy, her older sister Rena (Carl Zimmer), her big brother Alan (Gail), whom she adored and her little sister Sheila (Neil Sullivan), whom she was so very proud of. Mary graduated from high school in Aberdeen, SK. She finished Teacher's College and went on to teach in Spiritwood, Craik, Lloydminister, and Saskatoon, before she met Keith while she was teaching girls' Phys Ed at Melfort High School. Mary and Keith were married on August 23, 1965 and settled in Saskatoon to raise their family. Mom was the light of Dad's world. We will always remember the story of the beautiful girl who sat upon his lap the night they met and how she completely and totally stole his heart. Mom and Dad were best friends and soulmates. They enjoyed everything together and were always proud and supportive of one another. They traveled throughout Canada and the US, but most loved their times in Northern Saskatchewan camping, canoeing, hiking, cross country skiing and relaxing at their cabin together. Mary was a very talented and gifted artist who loved to create. She wrote poetry, sketched and drew pictures, sculpted clay, made puppets, arranged flowers, sewed clothes, and created many beautiful banners for McClure United Church. Mary enjoyed gardening, watching things grow and always cherished the beauty and colours in her gardens. Above all else, Mary loved to paint. Her paintings were truly her other children. Nature inspired her art and she loved to share her gifts, talents, and heart with everyone around her. Upon Mary's retirement as Activities Coordinator at McClure Place she and Keith designed and built their home at Anglin Lake. They spent many happy years there together enjoying nature and creating many treasured friendships. Mom loved her three children very much; Dawn (Brian Heck), Arden (Steve Moore) and Blake (Jaime Fairley). She was always and forever our biggest champion and cheerleader. Her greatest gift ever was Blake's return home. Mary treasured Brian, Steve, and Jaime very much and was so happy to have them become part of her family. Gramma Mary adored her five grandsons; Kyle, Connor, Brayden (Jasmine), Liam, and Logan. She was always so happy to be with them and was so very proud of everything each one of them did. "They are their own special selves". We will all miss beyond measure; her cookies, her lemon meringue pies, her grace at family suppers, her hugs, her big heart, her laugh, her quirky nature, her loon calls, her hazel eyes, and her kind, gentle soul. To the all of the Nurses, CCAs and Housekeeping staff of RUH 6100 and to Dr.'s A. and Dr. E. and Nurse Mary, we are so eternally grateful for your kindness and gentle loving care. A Service to Celebrate Mary's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019 at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor Street E, Saskatoon) with Rev. Laura Fouhse officiating. Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (Prairies Region) at 590 – 1212-31st Ave. NE, Calgary, AB T2E 7SB (http://www.llscanada.org/prairies-region).
