
Maurice Herbert Bennett Our greatly loved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 78 after a short illness. He will be more than greatly missed by Joyce, his wife of 55 years. He leaves with sadness his daughters, Bonnie (George) Reddekopp and Cheryl (Milton) Carley. Also missing their grandfather are Erin, Michael, Kelsey, Sean, and Kevin. He is survived by his sister Joyce (Jim Cockle) and their children Charles, Donna, Robbie, and Damon of Dryden, Ontario. He is predeceased by his father Herbert Bennett and his mother Edith Bennett. Maurice was born on May 23, 1932 in Springside, SK. He grew up and attended school in the town of Springside. His early days were marked by all things mechanical, being a great help to his father in Bennett's Mechanical Repair Shop. He always shared and cherished his memories of family times with his numerous aunts and cousins. In 1954 when Maurice became a Saskatoon City Police officer he moved to Saskatoon. After a memorable courtship he married the love of his life, Joyce, on October 22, 1955. They settled in Saskatoon having homes that always included a tool shop and workbench for Maurice. Maurice was a Saskatoon City Police officer for 32 years retiring from the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1986. During his time as a police officer he was Police Association Treasurer, also serving on the pension board and many other committees. Known for his work ethic, Maurice always had a second job. He thought that everyman should do an honest days work of something productive by the labor of his hands. He is well remembered for his alternator and starter business. Despite a busy life of hard work, there was never a doubt that he greatly loved his family. He expressed his love with the best of bear hugs. His daughters fondly remember camping trips, cabin days and holidays. Maurice's character was remarkable among men. He exhibited unwavering integrity, loyalty, and rock bottom honesty. His word was his bond. He also had a keen intuition that was able to bring out the best in others. Friends and family will remember his ability to add humor to uncomfortable situations and to make people feel at ease. As the years progressed Maurice's physical health decreased. He was able to stay in his home due to the loving care and devotion of his Joy. Thank you from the family to Maurice's care givers and friends through the years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Maurice's name to the Diabetic Association. A celebration of Maurice's life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Acadia-McKagues Funeral Center, 915 Acadia Drive., Saskatoon, SK.
