We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of a very special husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Murray Stephen Kovach. Murray was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan, to Frederick and Rose Kovach on July 14, 1954 and died on December 26, 2024, in Saskatoon. Murray was the youngest of their three children. His athleticism led him to play junior hockey in Melville, semi-professionally in Butte, MT and Tucson, AZ and for the Huskies at the University of Saskatchewan. He earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the U of S.
Murray was an entrepreneur who owned and ran Prairie Paving Inc. from 1982-2007. He married his soul mate, Aleatha Schoonover in 1983, with whom he had two children. Murray dedicated himself to his family, nurturing and supporting many throughout his life. His passion for sport was gifted to others as a coach, spectator and teammate. He continued to play hockey recreationally with the 'Antiques' well into his 60’s. Murray is admired greatly by his family and friends and will be missed dearly for his warm presence, wisdom, humour and generosity.
Murray was predeceased by his parents Rose and Fred Kovach, as well as his father-in-law Lyle Schoonover. Murray is survived by his wife: Aleatha, Erica (daughter), Rosey Kohle (granddaughter), Stephen (Tatjhannah) (son), and Ina Schoonover (mother-in-law). He will be remembered by his siblings, Doreen Desnomie, Fred (Lynn), Dale Jones (Linda Patton) a nephew that he felt was more like a younger brother, Karla Thomson (Jim) and many nieces, nephews and in-laws, as well as his many friends that loved him.
A Celebration of Murray’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mourning Glory Acadia McKague’s Funeral Chapel, 915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon.
