Drummer, avid gardener, and retired professor Nicholas “Nick” Ovsenek passed away suddenly on Sunday January 15, 2023, at age 61. Nick (aka Dr. Ovsenek, Scientific DAD, Uncle Nuck, and Nucklehead) was an amazing dad to his boys (Eric, Jim, and Rowan), a best friend to his sisters and brothers-in-law, and a warm loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Nick was an understanding, caring and supportive sibling to his two brothers and three sisters. His gentle and amiable disposition was admired by his parents, John, and Anne Ovsenek.
Nick treasured his wife (Lalita Bharadwaj) and loved her with all his heart. He was so proud of the life they built together. The morning swims, peaceful sunsets and above all time with each other. “True love is a many-splendored thing”.
Nick loved unconditionally, his mind was as open as his heart, and he was accepting of all. His warm presence would fill every room and his enormous personality was contagious to everyone he met. Nick, a Big Galoot no one ever forgets! He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched. He has loving friends and extended family members literally everywhere in the world!
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Nick. He was an incredible host, loved to play his drums during the many ChUgH jam sessions, listen to his favorite music, watch the songbirds and the sunset, often with an ice-cold beer in hand. His springtime joy, was the planning, seeding, and planting of his mammoth garden. Every year, Nick would load up the back of his truck with his fresh garden produce and drop it off to the Friendship Inn and Saskatoon Indian and Métis Friendship Centre. Nick had a very impressive green thumb. He adored his dogs and went for regular walks through the aspen bluff often reciting “Shhh. Be vewy vewy quiet, we’re hunting wabbits”. He had an extraordinary ability to find happiness in everything he did.
His zest for life will continue to thrive in the hearts and lives of the many he’s impacted. He’s unforgettable. Those who loved him will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. ChUgH On!
Nick will be celebrated this summer at his best-loved place; our home, in the backyard by the pool with food and drinks in the “Bumabre.” Date and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friendship Inn and/or Saskatoon Indian and Métis Friendship Centre may be made in his memory.
Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
