The family of Oswald (Ozzie) Weninger are deeply saddened to announce his passing on Saturday August 11, 2018 at the age of 87, surrounded by his family.
Dad is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eva, and their children: Gerry Weninger (Susan Stimson), Carol Weninger-Calver (Dale Calver), Susan Weninger (Joe Beckerman), Brenda Weninger (Andre Roeger); son-in-law Paul Chapman; grandchildren Byron, Matthew and Jonathan Calver; Amanda and Myles Roeger; Michael (Loran), Kevin (Jaime), Steven, James (Natascha) and Tianna Chapman; and great-grandchildren Cordelia and Sydney McDonald, and Bentley and Wyatt Chapman; and by his brothers Albert and Ray (Emily); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends.
Dad was predeceased by his daughter Donna, brother Bernard, infant brother Eugene, infant sisters Johanna and Margaret, and parents Joseph and Johanna.
Our father was born on the Weninger family farm near Allan, SK. July 2, 1931. Dad was your typical hard working farm boy, or at least he was until he started to take any and everything apart and then meticulously reassemble it. You could say Dad was a mechanical genius but a mechanical prodigy might be more accurate. Before graduating from High School he had built many machines designed to make life easier around the farm, including a wood lathe, a band saw (constructed almost entirely from wood), a wind charger to provide light for the after dark milking of cows, and the list goes on. After high school, Dad moved to Saskatoon to study Machining at the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate. On a blind date in 1954 Dad met the love of his life, Eva Stebanuk. They married in 1955 and were blessed with five children. Dad worked as a welder, machinist, and eventually Sales Manager for Smith Roles before founding Weninger Industries in 1974. Dad invented many brilliant products over the years, and holds two patents in his name. Everyone that dealt with or worked with our Dad will never forget his warm approach to all challenges; as Dad always put it, “Failure is not an option”. Dad’s word was gold and so was his friendship.
Dad was a devout Catholic and loved his family and friends more than life itself. No matter how busy he was, Dad always had time to help us out with any issue we might have, never too busy to help a friend in need. Dad forever encouraged and mentored all of us. Mom and Dad loved to dance (usually never missing a dance all night). They had a love affair that was like no other. What fabulous role models for all of us! In their retirement years, Mom & Dad travelled to many spots around the globe; they absolutely loved seeing new places and meeting new people. They had the kind of energy in life we all aspire to; age was just a number.
Dad always said he could handle whatever challenge God handed him; he never worried, he only accepted and solved. The last ten years of Dad’s life involved a struggle with vascular dementia, but through the disease Dad never lost his ability to express his love for all of us. A smile was always just around the corner. To all of the staff that helped our father through his last years at Samaritan Place and Stonebridge Crossing, we the family are forever thankful for your love and compassion afforded our Father.
Dad slipped away from his earthly pain surrounded in the love of his family on August 11th, 2018. Our father will be sadly missed forever; he is now that guiding light shining down upon us from above. We love you Dad.
