Ramona (Mona) was born on September 6, 1967 and raised in Saskatoon and loved to spend her childhood summers in Middle Lake and St Brieux. She attended Bishop Pocock and Holy Family elementary school and graduated from Evan Hardy high school in 1986 and went immediately to work at Supreme Office Products. She spent time travelling Europe and went to the Bahamas with her uncle. On one of her many trips to visit him in Rosetown, she met the love of her life, Neil. They married on August 16,1997 in Swift Current and she soon found herself enveloped in a wonderful family with her stepsons Greg, Robby and Mitchell. Neil and Ramona moved to Vermillion where they pursued their career training. She was awarded her certificate in early childhood development in June of 1996. They returned home to family and friends in Saskatoon in 1998.
Ramona had a special gift when it came to children. She ran home daycares and it was clear that she was truly invested in the children she brought into her home and she loved them as her own .She had an amazing capacity to teach and her genuine interest in children soon led to a career as an Educational Assistant at Prairie Spirit school division at Warman elementary school in 2003. She blossomed into a dedicated educator and took a heartfelt interest in the well being of each of her special students. She cherished the little notes, stories and pictures she received from her students.
A tragic accident claiming the life of her youngest stepson Mitchell at the end of 2005 and devastating diagnosis in 2006 at the age of thirty-eight reveled the true character of Ramona. An incredibly strong, determined and courageous woman emerged. Ramona’s optimism and resolve proved to be the most effective treatment against her disease as she surpassed everyone’s expectations and surprised a medical community with her resilience. She was candid and open about her journey and helped so many faces their own challenges.
During her treatment she continued to work and wanted to be able to help her students so learned sign language in 1998. She spent countless hours with her nieces and grandchildren hosting shopping trips and sleepovers. Neil and her continued to host many family gatherings and traveled to Florida and Banff on special holidays. She loved and cherished her pets.
She leaves a legacy of love and laughter and we invite you to celebrate her life on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Dr).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ramona’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Tiny Paws Dog Rescue.
The Family wishes to extended their appreciation to Dr. Sami, Dr Julianna Balaton, Janice and to all the medical staff at the cancer center and St.Pauls palliative ward and to all those that supported Ramona through out her journey.
