Ray was born in Cuba on June 6, 1933, and raised in Jamaica by his grandmother. He was educated at a Catholic boys school operated by the Jesuits, and the lessons he learned as a boy stayed with him his entire life. Ray lived in London, England where he mastered the craft of printing, earning his City & Guilds at the London College of Applied Arts & Sciences before relocating to Saskatchewan, Canada in January 1967. Ray first worked in Humboldt for the Humboldt Journal as a Printing Pressman. Here he met his wife Roslyn (nee Schlosser). They lived in Toronto, then Regina and finally settled in Saskatoon where he found work at PrintWest Communications where he remained until his retirement.
In his younger years, he loved participating in many sports including soccer, cricket, baseball and was even a professional cyclist. Ray loved music (especially jazz) and played the bass in a Jazz band. After moving to Canada bowling and golf became his most favourite pastimes, winning many trophies and tournaments sharing the prizes he won along the way. He kept himself busy, practicing his putting skills all winter long in the living room where a pile of golf balls and his putter was proudly on display. Ray really loved his garden and especially his prized tomatoes and potatoes which he generously shared with so many. If you every stopped by the house, you would find him weeding, watering or tinkering with something in his backyard. Most of all Ray was a natural storyteller, always sharing stories of his travels and the wisdom he acquired along the way, with anyone who would listen.
Ray was very active in his community as a member of many clubs such as The Optimist Club, New Democratic Party, Afro-Caribbean Association and the Knights of Columbus to name a few.
Ray leaves to mourn his wife of over 50 years Roslyn Pinto; daughters Lisa Pinto and Amelia (Andrew) Palmer (Austin, Axwell, Neve and Fleur); sons Fitzroy (Mesime, Indie and Nyra), Marcel (Romero, Rukaya and Olivia) and Mario (Marcel); mother-in Law Geraldine Schlosser; his in-Laws – Don (Daisy) Gogel, Randy Schlosser, Bob Schlosser, Celine (Malcolm) Foster, Susanne (Lloyd) Bernhard, Corie (Eric) Hetzel, Lea Drotar, and Leslie (Shannon) Schlosser along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.
