René was born on the family farm in Vonda on December 5, 1928. In 1947, René began his trade as a butcher with his uncle, in Nipawin. He practiced his trade at Sirois Shop-Rite on 11th Street until it was sold in 1971. He became a meat salesman for Empire Meats, then Intercontinental Packers until his retirement in 1994. René was a longtime member of Sts-Martyrs-Canadiens Parish and was active in many ways including bringing the Eucharist to shut-ins every week. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, having served as Grand Knight. René enjoyed spending time in the water at Wakaw Lake and tending to his bountiful garden. He loved music and often broke into song. Sing-songs around the piano were his favorite entertainment. Schmeer was his card game of choice, at which he usually won! He participated in many social activities and made jigsaw puzzles during his years at Columbian Manor. He was also an avid sports fan. What brought René the most joy was the company of his grandchildren. He was proud of his family.
