We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mom, Rita Ehr, (nee Fahl) on July 24, 2022. Mom was born on Jan 26, 1933, in Wilkie, SK, to Peter and Agnes Fahl. She was the 2nd of 8 children. As a young girl her family moved to Rosetown, SK, where she attended the convent and graduated grade 12. While attending a dance of the Catholic Youth Organization she met the love of her life, Delbert, at the age of 16. They had a long distance relationship until mom moved to Saskatoon to start her nursing education at St Paul’s Residence. In May of 1955 she graduated and they married two weeks later. They resided in Saskatoon where they raised their 5 children.
Mom worked her entire career at St Paul’s Hospital, most of those years looking after the new babies (including several of her own grandchildren) and loved every minute of it.
She was widowed in 1984 at the young age of 50 and never remarried. After retiring she enjoyed many years of activities including lawn bowling, 5 and 10 pin bowling, playing cards, traveling with her widows’ group, volunteering at St Paul’s gift shop and enjoying her many grandchildren until illness forced her to slow down.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Agnes Fahl, husband Delbert, granddaughter Jessica Loewen and grandson Jamie Loewen, her brothers Harold, Ed and Rick and 3 sisters Johanna, Norma and Mary.
She is survived by one sister, Jeanette Sapsford, and sisters-in-law Pauline Ehr, Odile Fahl and Judy Fahl, and by her five children: Carolyn (Sheldon Ekstrom); Kathy (Kong Cheung); Sharon (Greg Loewen); Gail Ehr; and Brad (Sandra); her grandchildren Logan Halyk, Chad Halyk (Alison), Shaylyn Kraushaar (Everett), Jaycie Halyk (Daniel), Stephanie Scott (Dillip), Michelle Scott-Bergen (Jon), Alora Cheung, Tyler Loewen, Joel Loewen (Stacey), Sydney Ehr and Edyn Ehr, and 17 great grandchildren.
We will miss you so much mom, but are happy you are finally free from the struggles of the diseases that you have had to deal with over the last years of your life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimers’ Society. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 17, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Co-Cathedral (720 Spadina Crescent East). Rite of Committal to follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Porteous Lodge for the wonderful care of their mother.
