It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Edmond Belke, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Ron was surrounded by the love of his family at St. Ann's Care Home on March 1, 2025 when he was called home to be with the Lord.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Julia Belke, and his brother, Earnest.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 51 years, Marlene; children Brad (Eliza) and Beverley (Billy); and grandchildren Alex, Jacob, Everett, Shaylee, William, and Oliver; and brother Donald (Rita) Belke. Also, many extended family members and lifelong friends.
Born on August 15, 1942, Ron spent his younger years on the family farm south of Aberdeen, SK.
As a teenager, Ron moved with his mom and brothers to Saskatoon, where he became a lifelong resident and active member of the community. During his early 20's he landed a job working for his good friends at the Manhattan Ballroom. He enjoyed these years and loved to share his memories and entertaining stories with his grandchildren which always made them giggle.
Ron worked for many years in the transportation industry, traveling throughout Saskatchewan and into Manitoba. His work allowed him to network for his employer while also building lasting friendships that extended well beyond his professional years. Ron was known for his ability to befriend everyone he met.
Ron’s passion for cooking and barbecuing led to the creation of a family-owned catering business. His culinary talents took the family across Saskatchewan, catering for various gatherings and events, including the closing ceremony of the 1989 Brier in Saskatoon.
A dedicated and loyal member of the Saskatoon Lions Club for over 50 years, Ron contributed to numerous initiatives, including working with the CNIB, advocating for diabetes awareness, supporting the Saskatoon Lions Band, and helping develop the Lions Skatepark. He played a pivotal role in bringing the US/Canada Lions Forum to Saskatoon and was humbled by the opportunities to travel across Canada and the United States for conventions and meetings. Ron’s service also took him to Japan, where he had the honor of serving as District Governor for 5CN. Above all, he cherished the friendships he made with fellow Lions, who became like family to him.
In his retirement years, Ron enjoyed getting out on his scooter to meet friends for coffee, playing cards with friends and family, and hosting gatherings when he was able. He was always eager to meet new people and engage in conversation with anyone he encountered. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he took great pleasure in spending time with them.
Ron will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, and the lasting impact he had on everyone he met. His unwavering commitment to family and service to his community will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory are appreciated to the Lions Club of Saskatoon or STARS Air Ambulance.
