Ron was predeceased by his wife, Amy, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years. Amy was the love of his life, and Ron dedicated his life to her. He is survived and deeply missed by his two children, of whom he was a proud father: his son, Kevin (Lori Fehr), and his daughter, Sherry (Warren Sikorski). He also leaves behind his deeply adored granddaughter, Brianne Sikorski. His family was his greatest joy, and his unwavering willingness to help them will be forever cherished.
Born on January 5, 1937, on a farm in Allan, Saskatchewan, Ron was the beloved son of Anton Schatz and Katherine Vogt and a brother to 11 siblings. Ron dedicated much of his life to hard work, a strong faith, and his family. He worked as a professional painter before transitioning to roles at Redi-Mix and the Allan Potash Mine, where he remained for 30 years until his retirement. Ron was a dedicated worker, always completing tasks on time and with perfection. Throughout his career at PCS, he built lasting friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Remarkably, he outlived his 11 siblings, a testament to his resilience and strength.
Ron found joy in his many passions. He loved helping at the farm with his son-in-law, Warren, with whom he shared a special bond full of fire, laughter and fond memories. He relished weekends with his son, Kevin, working together on countless projects that brought him immense pride and happiness. Ron always expressed gratitude for his daughter, Sherry, who cared for him with the utmost love and devotion. Playing pool with friends at Chalet Gardens, enjoying bonfires at the farm, playing Kaiser and frequenting Market Mall to visit with friends brought him immense joy. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Ron eagerly volunteered for countless projects at Chalet Gardens, where he formed deep friendships and loved living there.
Above all, Ron treasured spending time with his family. He held a deep special bond with his only granddaughter, Brianne, whose love and laughter enriched his life. He never said no to her … they shared much quality time together and he experienced so much through her eyes. This brought him immense joy and an unbreakable devotion that shaped both of their lives. One of their most cherished memories was their road trip from Saskatoon to Clearwater, Florida in 2023, stopping in Nashville to enjoy country bars on Broadway and spending two unforgettable weeks together in Florida.
Ron is predeceased by his siblings but leaves behind cherished memories of growing up in a large and loving family. His siblings include Rose (Bob) Moore, Helen Schatz, Margaret (Jack) Taylor, Jack (Anne) Schatz, Anne (Henry) Henriksen, Irene (Don) Hallett, Ted (Doris) Schatz, Berny Schatz, Doreen Schatz, Edwin Schatz, and Kathleen Schatz.
A selfless man in every sense, Ron touched the lives of everyone who knew him. To know him was to experience his generosity, kindness, empathy, love, humor, and unwavering willingness to put others first. He lived each day with gratitude and positivity.
The legacy you left behind for us was love, woven through every relationship and connection you nurtured with friends, family, and community. You showed us that true strength lies not in the things we achieve alone, but in the bonds we build and the kindness we share. Your example taught us the value of loyalty, compassion, and the power of being present for others. In your presence, we witnessed love in its purest form—unconditional, enduring, and ever-giving. You’ve left us with a blueprint for living that is grounded in connection, and we are better for it. Thank you for showing us how to love fully, deeply, and without reservation.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Dad's caring family and friends at Chalet Gardens. We would like to give a special mention to Mary Engel, Donna, and Anna—Dad was truly grateful for each of you every single day.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative care staff at St. Paul’s Hospital—Dr. Fournier, Nurses Brittany and Val, the care staff, and social worker Irene—for their guidance, expertise, professionalism, and compassion during his brief stay. Mylandra, you left a gentle mark on our hearts. Your music had a unique way of connecting with our emotions and transcending language. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift of music with our family.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care, or the Hospice at Glengarda. Lastly, we will gather for one last pool game, at Chalet Gardens, to celebrate and share memories of Dad's life. The date will be announced at a later time.
