May 18, 1941 – January 16, 2017
With heavy hearts we announce Ron’s passing on Monday, January 16th, 2017. With his wife and son by his side, he was relieved of his suffering at the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital. Born in Lestock, Saskatchewan, to William and Agnes Weber, he was the eldest of eleven children. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Chase-Weber; son, Monte (Tara) Weber; daughter, Naomi (Paul) Handley; step-sons, Kelly (Raelynn) Chase; Kyle Chase; step-daughter, Candace Dutchyshen; mother, Agnes Weber; brother, Richard (Judy) Weber; sisters Marie Ann (Frank) King; Celine (Lyle) Farley; Helen Carroll; Lorriane (Murray) Cheesman; Jane (Lorne) Labash; Katherine Ecklund; Eileen (Tim) Harding; 4 sisters-in-law Brenda Weber; Brenda Weber; Janet (Bryan) Lutz; Shelly (John) McSymytz; brother-in-law Darrell (Cheryl) Zenuk; 12 grandchildren; as well as many extended family members. He was predeceased by first wife Marcia Hood; father, William; and brothers Cletus and Wilfred. Ron grew up on the family farm in Quinton and went to school there, later attended St. Thomas Collage in North Battleford and Vocational School in Edmonton. In 1962, he joined the RCAF and 2 and a half years as a Military Police. In 1965 he became a member of the Saskatoon City Police where he served for 35 years, retiring as a Superintendent. Ron loved his job and cared dearly about his colleagues and the city he served. He was a man of truth and integrity. In his retirement, he and Joyce spent a few summers managing the Tackle Box at Greenwater Park where he could spend time with friends and family. His vacations every year to Puerto Vallarta were a highlight. He loved children and was happy to take one of the grandchildren for ice cream, separately of course, as he got more himself that way. He also enjoyed coffee with former colleagues and friends and telling “stories of old”. Special thanks to those who picked Ron up when he could no longer drive. You were a special group of people. Ron was an avid sports fan, coaching the police hockey team, his children’s ball teams, volunteering for the Blades, and especially watching family member sport events. He was a proud grandpa. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s and failing health, Sherbrooke Community Centre became his home until recent days. Thank you to staff at Sherbrooke Community Centre. Extra special thank you to the staff at Palliative care at St. Paul’s Hospital… you are remarkable people. Thanks for the care and compassion. Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 2:00 pm at Prairieland Park (Hall B) 503 Ruth Street West, Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation (#1-345 3rd Ave South, Saskatoon, S7K 1M6). Arrangements are in care of MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306) 978-5200
