April 1, 1943 - April 25, 2014
Sandra passed away on April 25, 2014, at the age of 71. She was born in Dauphin, Manitoba. As a young adult, she spent a few years as a secretary for the Winnipeg Ballet. Soon after, she met and married hometown boy Gary Abraham with whom she had two children, Jacki and Allen. A few years later, her husband passed away suddenly and Sandra relocated her young children to Dauphin and re-established her professional career. She later remarried and moved to rural Saskatchewan with her new husband Obert Braaten, where she raised her children and had twins, Eric and Melanie. From that point on, resiliency would be a term she would come to embody the rest of her life. Sandra was a tireless worker and continued to reinvent herself in order to challenge herself personally and professionally, while acting as an exemplary role model to her children. For the two decades she spent as a farm wife, she balanced farm duties and child-rearing, with jobs that included driving school bus, selling life insurance and selling candles. She spent her last 10 years in retirement in Saskatoon, embracing her passions: time with God, selflessly loving her four children and nine grandchildren and creating beautiful, detailed works-of-art quilts. These she shared with a multitude of people including, her family, Saskatoon children receiving cancer treatment and local shelters. Her candour, wisdom, flaws and perfection will be greatly missed. A private family celebration of Sandra’s life will be held in Saskatoon on Wednesday, April 30th.
