Sharon was born on March 2, 1950, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to George and Kay Slater (nee Callaghan). The third of six children, she was predeceased by her parents, her sister Mary-Lynne, and her infant brother Donald, and is survived by her sisters Colleen (Kellie) and Charlotte, and her brother Brian.
Sharon leaves behind her daughters, Morgan Coflin (Crispin Adolf) and Sarah Coflin, as well as Morgan's daughters, Sharon's beloved granddaughters, Kiera Coflin, Georgia Coflin, and Ziarra (Zibi) Coflin, and her step-grandson, Tucker Adolf.
With the goal of becoming a nun, Sharon earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Saskatchewan. There she met David Coflin and was welcomed into his family. They were married on September 11, 1971. Later, David and Sharon moved to the lower mainland of British Columbia, where they started their family and where Sharon earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of British Columbia. Her MSW provided many opportunities to pursue her truest passion, her calling - helping others. Sharon was one of the founders of the Metis Commission for Children and Families of BC, an organization that strives to ensure Metis people receive culturally safe support services.
While marriage and a family put consecrated life out of the picture, Sharon’s faith in God and the Catholic Church never wavered. She continued to serve God whenever and wherever she could, including serving as a pastoral associate or offering counselling. Sharon was willing to sit, visit, and talk about God and faith with anyone in need.
Sharon and David loved and supported each other, and their children in all of their endeavours. They never failed to enjoy adventures, be it building a house from scratch and living off-grid in the middle of the woods in BC, or moving across the Atlantic Ocean to live on a sailboat and sail around the UK. Unfortunately, David lost a very short battle with cancer and died on March 13, 2006.
Two years and more adventures later, Sharon and her daughters returned to Canada to settle in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she continued to help others and spread the Word of God to all who would listen.
Despite being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and numerous lung-related illnesses in the last decades of her life, Sharon remained positive in her faith in God and love for her family. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Sharon Slater Coflin is missed deeply by her family and friends.
