THANH worked diligently from a young age to care for his younger siblings after the early death of his father. THANH resided in Hai Phong, where he met his beloved wife, PHUONG THI VO. They married in 1966 and started their family with son CUONG CANH (Joey) in 1967 and a daughter QUYNH NGOC (Betty) followed in 1970. The birth and loss of a premature son occurred in 1974 and a final child Kim was born in Canada in 1980.
THANH and his young family were forced to flee Vietnam as war refugees/boat people in 1978; they are forever grateful to Canada’s kindness in offering them refuge. Canada, with its friendly and welcoming people, gave THANH and his family a new chance at a peaceful life filled with hope and promise. THANH had an appreciation for Chinese literature and history, music and art. He was a voracious reader who felt so fortunate to be a patron of libraries and he enjoyed his visits.
THANH adored his children and grandchildren, as well as his large extended family; they were his comfort and joy. THANH’s health declined in his final years, but he was able to spend them in his home with his devoted wife and daughter and with the considerable help of his grandson Brandon.
THANH is survived by his wife PHUONG; son CUONG (Joey) and wife HUONG (Holly) of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; daughter Kim of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and grandchildren Mercedes, Brandon, Devyn and Tylor as well as many extended family and friends. THANH was predeceased by his premature son; daughter QUYNH (Betty); and brothers HOI, TRUNG, VINH and TUNG.
The family would like to thank all medical professionals who provided dad's care, particularly Dr. Gericke. Special thanks to the Saskatoon Fire Department, Ambulance care, Saskatoon Police Department and the Saskatoon’s Coroner’s office for their compassion and response.
