It pleased God to call our dear Sister Theresa to her heavenly home on February 4th when she died at RUH after a brief time of illness in hospital. Theresa Helen Novecosky was born at home on April 5, 1933 in the Gull Lake area to Christine (Tetzlaff) and Fred Novecosky, one of nine children. Theresa first encountered the Sisters of St. Elizabeth during her years at Monastery School when she needed to be hospitalized at St. Elizabeth Hospital. “I felt a yearning to consecrate my entire life to God for a number of years”, she writes in a biography, “but when it came to make a decision, I knew I would be at home with the Sisters of St. Elizabeth”. On Oct. 30, 1950 Theresa received the Franciscan habit of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth and the name Sr. Leonardine. She pronounced her temporary religious vows in 1952 and perpetual vows in 1955. She celebrated her 50th anniversary in 2002. We remember Sr. Theresa as a most dedicated nurse and a woman of prayer. In the community she also served as local superior in several of our houses, she loved travelling and had a great devotion to family, friends and all staff persons with whom she served. Left to mourn her death are her sisters in community; her sisters and brothers Albert Novecosky, Sr. Claire OSU, Elsie and Ron Oakman, Ervin and Rita Novecosky and James and Laura Novecosky and her sister-in-law Theresa Novecosky and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Christine and Fred; sisters Magdalen and Hilda; brother George; and a sister and brother in infancy Agnes and Anthony. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at St Philip Neri RC Parish (1902 Munroe Ave S) with Abbot Peter Novecosky, osb as celebrant.
