It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anton “Tony” John Baschuk, who left us unexpectedly, but peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 84. Tony was born on April 24, 1941, in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan, where he spent his early years working on the family farm. Though he quickly realized his passion was to crush those darn field stones instead of picking them.
Tony’s entrepreneurial spirit led him into the gravel construction industry, where he found his calling. In 1987, alongside his devoted wife Joanne, he founded Baschuk Construction Ltd., a business they nurtured with dedication and perseverance. Being the hard-working guy that he was, Tony would never give you the shirt off of his back. Rather, he would give you a job so that you could buy your own.
Through good times and bad, ups and downs, Tony and Joanne worked together growing their business and raising their children. These were truly Tony’s greatest sources of pride and accomplishment. Although Tony officially “retired” in 2023, he never truly slowed down. Instead, he devoted his time to keeping his Joey “company” and enjoying the blessings of family and friends.
Tony and Joanne (née Demchuk) were married on August 10, 1963, and were just shy of celebrating 62 years of marriage.
Tony is lovingly remembered by his wife Joanne, and his children: Rhonda Kirkness, Rick (Marletta) Baschuk, Colleen (David) Wilchuck, Jason (Twyla) Baschuk, Tanya (Graham) Thibault
He was a cherished Gido to 13 grandchildren: Brennan, Meagan, Danielle, Wade, Garett, Brielle, Brooke, Kyla, Sterling, Daytona, Koby, Alex, and Emma; and a proud Great-Gido to Stetsyn and Beckett.
Tony is survived by his sisters: Dianne (Walter) Kosmynka and Sonia (John) Kucey; sisters-in-law: Sylvia, Sharon, and Barb Baschuk; and brother-in-law, Bernie (Sandra) Demchuk. He leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents: Nick and Sophie Baschuk; parents-in-law: Mike and Marie Demchuk; son-in-law, Bob Kirkness; his beloved daughter, Tammy Baschuk; siblings: sister, Rose (Sylvester) Repchinsky and brothers: Irvin, David, Dennis, and Ron (Debbie) Baschuk.
Tony will be deeply missed for his generous heart, sharp wit, and warm hospitality. He was always happiest with a full house and a good conversation. Whether it was sharing meals and spirits, telling stories, or simply visiting, Tony had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued.
Cheers to a life well lived, well loved, and forever cherished.
