Vibeke Kragh Paulsen

With sadness we announce the passing of Vibeke “Vibs” Kragh Paulsen who led an eventful and unique 98 years. She leaves behind three children (Birgit and Garry Kaban, John and Kathy Paulsen, and Dan and Gloria Paulsen) 4 grand - children (Michael, Steven, Jennifer and Mark) and 4 great grandchildren (Olivia, Emma, Briel and Matthew)

She was born in Odense Denmark in 1924 and grew up privileged in her early years with her family being in the wholesale building industry. Sports and Girl Guides were her passions followed by going into nursing and serving as such during the war years in Denmark. These early events marked bases for many of her story telling times in the future.

Moving to Canada in 1951, with Preben “Ted” and two small children, Birgit and John, they set off on an adventure on a cargo ship. With what they could pack in their pockets and a few suit cases they began life in Winnipeg. Ted worked as a tin smith and Vibs took in borders and did laundry to make ends meet in their new country.

Dan was born a few years later to add to the little Canadian family to make five.

Moving to Saskatoon from Winnipeg in 1970, their circle of friends quickly grew with involvement in the church and community groups. Vibs grew her artistic skills in wall hangings and was for decades a vendor at local art shows with many of her pieces still around the city today. She would beam when she mentioned one of her pieces hangs in Saskatoon’s sister City, Umea Sweden.

Ted pre-deceased Vibs in 2000 after 54 years of marriage. She took on a new challenge and enrolled in Toast Masters and soon became an avid story teller and writer.

Vibs was very involved in the Lutheran Church and a long time member at Zion here in Saskatoon. She lived a full life in spite of numerous health challenges. She will be remembered for her perseverance and staying mentally alert and physically active until her passing.
