Violet Louise Laing-Armstrong

The family of Violet "Vi" Laing-Armstrong is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, February 2nd, 2014.  She is survived by her 6 children  Linda (Terry) Stevens, Russell (Patricia) Brisbin, Janice (Gary) Stevens, Bill (Suz) Laing, Brenda (Jim) Angus, Brent (Brenda) Laing, 19 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren, sister-in law Alice Hyland and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Alfred & Nellie Hyland, husbands Frank Brisbin, Jack Laing, Bill Armstrong and Doug Martin, brothers Gerald Hyland and his wife Lillian, Morley Hyland, sister Joyce McCullough and her husband Johnny, grandson Kory Stevens as well as many other in-laws.  Vi was born on the Hyland homestead near Ardath, SK  on July 28, 1925.  She raised her family on the Laing farm near Harris, SK. and after the passing of her husband Jack, moved to Saskatoon in 1976.  She loved to dance and socialize and spent many Saturdays at the Army & Navy dances. Vi lived life to the fullest and when she was around there was always laughter.  She faced many tragedies in her life but her passion for life enabled her to always bounce back.  She enjoyed many activities including camping trips, fishing, golfing, family gatherings and bus tours. Family was the centre of Mom’s life and she always took great interest and pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments.  Mom was the epitome of what life is all about – love, laughter and joy. Her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life made people want to be around her. In 2010, Vi broke her hip and went to live at Oliver Lodge.  We wish to thank all the staff at Oliver Lodge who took great care of Mom and made her feel so welcome and happy.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ‘Angles of Care’ Oliver Lodge (1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 3R5).
