GREER - William George Greer passed peacefully in Saskatoon in the early hours of Christmas Day, 2014. Bill is survived by his daughter, Arlene Long of Saskatoon; son, Brian (Sandy) of Langley, British Columbia; grandchildren, Shea Long (Chelsey) of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Karli Long of Saskatoon, Aedan Greer of Whitehorse, Yukon and Echlin Greer of Langley; great-grandchildren, William and Charlee Long of Spruce Grove; brother, Gordon, of Vancouver (formerly of Victoria); brother-in-law, Darwin Moore (Jos) of Regina; four nieces, a nephew and an aunt, Bertha Girard, of Vulcan, Alberta. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine, in June 2013 and by his son-in-law, Robert Long, and sister-in-law, Berniece Mayo. Bill was born in Regina on November 22, 1928, the son of William James and Susan Richardson Greer (nee Bentley). He and Maxine were married in June 1951. Bill had lived in Regina continuously until October 2012, when he and Maxine moved to Saskatoon to be closer to Arlene. In Regina, Bill and Maxine had lived on the 700 block of Elphinstone Street, the 1300 block of Montague Street, on DeMarco Drive for 49 years and in College Park Retirement Residence. In Saskatoon, Bill and Maxine moved into the Preston Park Retirement Residence and Bill remained there after Maxine’s passing until January 2014, when he moved into Brightwater Senior Living at Stonebridge. Just a few days prior to his passing Bill had moved into Oliver Lodge Special Care Home. Bill started work as an office boy at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool head office in Regina in 1946 and continued with the Wheat Pool for 42 years until his retirement in 1988 as a Systems Analyst. For many years after his retirement, Bill had kept in touch with old friends from the Wheat Pool. During his working life Bill had been active and held executive positions in the Grain Services Union. He also had served on boards at St. Andrews and Rosemont United Churches. Bill was a lifelong curler and curled into his 80's. He enjoyed watching curling, both live and on television, and also was a fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Montreal Canadiens and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. Above everything though, Bill was a dedicated family man. He was a loving husband and companion to Maxine. They traveled to Hawaii, the Caribbean and across Canada and had cherished those memories. He cared for Maxine when she began to lose her way and had looked after his mother and assisted his mother-in-law in their later years. He loved and supported his daughter and son and their spouses in everything they did. He was an active grandfather to each of his grandchildren and was proud of them and of his great-grandchildren. Bill will be fondly remembered by his family. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon) Rev. Michele Rowe officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those so choosing, may remember Bill by supporting a charity of choice.
