Eulogy for Anna Maki
It’s been a long month, first dad and now mom. I thought of what I would, should and could say about such a wonderful woman. When time came and was asked if I wanted to say something, fear of standing in front of a crowd prevented me from committing and delivering. It came to me that I had a second chance to present these thoughts on line at the Arthur’s Funeral Home web site.
Hi, I’m Ray Dumais, son-in-law of Anna Maki, husband to Wendy.
Before we left Sudbury 3 years ago, many trips were made to the Sault. Mom always opened her home to us with open arms. She had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve known. She was always helping or looking after someone. We bought a house just down the street from her. We had a good two years where we often visited each other and made numerous trips to the casino. Mom loved playing the slots (it seemed that she was always winning). She also loved shopping and going out to eat with the girls. Unfortunately, her health started to deteriorate. The diabetes took its toll on her body, soon she needed more help than one person was able to give. She and Ted were welcomed into our home as they had done for us so many years earlier. Despite the efforts she ultimately succumbed to her ailments. We loved her, and like my own mother, I couldn’t have asked for a better mother. She will be missed.
