Mel will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends, especially those from the Pine Island area, whose bonfires will never be the same.
Mel was a proud lifelong member of many fraternal organizations, such as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #25, The Elks Lodge, the Knights of Columbus and most recently, the Royal Order of the Moose. He devoted his time to helping those in need, driving those undergoing Cancer treatments to Sudbury with the Elks Lodge, serving many pasta dinners with the Knights of Columbus, and much more. His dedication did not go unnoticed, most notably by the Royal Canadian Legion who, on March 6th, awarded him with a medal for having been an active member for over 50 years. His absence in these groups will always be felt.
He was a true role model, working tirelessly to support his family and showing them that hard work can still be fun. Back in the 40s, Mel started up Mel’s Automotive, selflessly helping the people of Sault Ste. Marie repair their vehicles. He was never afraid to help a friend or stranger in need, which gave his business, which is now owned and operated by his two sons Pat and Len, a long-lasting reputation. Mel always wanted to help his children with their endeavors, whether it be continuing to work at Mel’s Automotive even after sons took over, or even working at his son’s Wendys restaurant up until they sold it. The Spicy Chicken Combo sales will be a lot lower now without Mel.
Mel’s pride and joy was his family. Anyone who knew Mel knew how much he loved his children and how proud of them he was. Spending time with his kids was always his favourite part of the day, which made many memories of their adventures that they will continue to cherish. He was loved by so many, and we will miss him forever. Our hearts may feel heavy, but we are grateful for every moment we shared and we will continue to carry his love and legacy with us.
Mel’s family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at the F. J. Davey Home, especially those on the 3rd floor. You made every day in his last few months fun and exciting.
A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East; 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made payable online or by cheque to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Mizzi family.
Now go forth and remember, as Mel would always sing, Que Sera, Sera.
