HANKINSON, Fennell Archer - April 18, 1927 - July 31, 2021

Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital with his wife Norma of 67 years by his side. Son of the late Canon W.A. & Emma Hankinson and son-in-law of the late Irvin & Peggy Robertson. Predeceased by his sisters Barbara & Alice Hankinson and dear brother-in-law of the late Lawrence Robertson (Joyce). Loving father of Janice Render (Brian), late Rob Hankinson (Kim), Alison Horbatuk (Steve) and Stephen Hankinson (Kim). Grandfather of Tyler Hankinson, Shawn Horbatuk (Kat), Ryan Hankinson (Sheena), Carrie Punches (Derek), Tianna Jobst (Nick), Tanner Rutland (Jessica), Therran Hankinson, Johanna Hankinson and Nolan Hankinson. Great Grandfather of Emily, Drew, Lauryn, Tuck, Wesley & Jack. Beloved Uncle of Marianne Davies (Bryan), Mark Robertson (Karen) and Beth Olivero (Phil). He will be missed also by many other family members and friends.

Fenn was born in Rousseau, Ontario, raised in Thunder Bay, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. degree. He began his 31-year teaching career in Sudbury where he met the love of his life, Norma, before he moved to Sault Ste. Marie and married in 1954. It was there that he and Norma built their family and home, as well as their beloved camp in Horseshoe Bay. Nothing made Fenn happier than having his family & friends together at the hacienda on the shores of Lake Superior. He was an avid outdoorsman who wanted to get out fishing right until his final days. Fenn enjoyed telling a good story and sharing a laugh with you, whether over a bottle of his chokecherry wine or while playing cards. As a devout Christian, Fenn lived his life in the name of the Lord and was an active member of St. Matthew’s Parish.

Fenn's Family would like to thank Dr. Ladak and the staff on 3C for their compassion, humanity and understanding. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH or Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Friends and family are welcome to visit www.arthurfuneral.com obituaries section to leave a message of condolence as a keepsake for the family. A memorial visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Arthur Funeral Home. A Church service will take place on Thursday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmaus Anglican Church with Rev. Holly Klemmensen officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522).

On behalf of myself and my father, Grant, our most sincere condolences. My parents' friendship with the Hankinsons predated my birth. Fenn was my homeroom teacher, and taught me science in that lab room with the long counters and bunsen burners. Dad enjoyed many stags and card games over the years! Lots of laughs. I have photos of them at Christmas parties and dinners out. I remember renting the camp at Horseshoe Bay, Mom cooking on the woodstove and Fenn showing us how to use the sauna. He let me row a boat out alone, then had to flag me back with a beach towel because I'd nearly entered the shipping lane. Known as a calm quiet person, he sure enjoyed so much fun.
Norma, our very best wishes to you and your family at this difficult time of loss. Know how many smiles there will always be, when anyone remembers how Fenn enjoyed his life's moments.

Fen was a wonderful companion and gracious host on those many occasions when members of the Robertson clan from Toronto trekked north for a visit.
His sly sense of humour and big-hearted generosity always made us feel welcome in the knowledge we could stay as long as we wished. Our daughters, sons in law and families all have treasured memories of those trips.
His colourful yarns & legendary fishing knowledge held us in thrall, even though there were those times when his secret fishing holes in the area came up short delivering a catch. But there was always the late afternoon happy hour time by the garage to talk about the big ones that got away.
We will all miss his calm and reassuring presence and send condolences to our wonderful Norma and all our Sault family & connections. Lloyd, Nancy & family..

Norma & family,
So very sorry for your loss. Mr. Hankinson taught me chemistry at Collegiate in the 70’s. This young picture of him looks so much like Tanner. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all during this difficult time ❤️.

Although I never had him for a teacher when he was at Collegiate, I got to know him well as he and my father Jack McCrady were great friends as was my mother Jean with Norma. My condolences.
